Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep
Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Buyers are requested to fill out a survey that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress models; each respective model provides a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Sleep

Construction Helix Sleep
All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique models (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Sleep
Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you would like something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re likely to encounter some great body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to encourage extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the variant you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which will be very versatile and therefore very popular. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more choices.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller area. People who are lighter than average or people in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples that weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with differing types of bodies or preferences can also pick a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of those models seem quite right, you may always check out the 4 other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for all sleepers, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep
According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
When getting a brand-new mattress, most people want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you may encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to hit the individually-wrapped coils and find great support. This combination will appeal to a vast range of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel quite secured seated on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix Mattress is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it is sent to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it free, and receive a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Sleep
Helix Sleep offers an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1″ or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleanup, it’s suggested to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure that you clean using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
