Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Twin Mattress

Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress models; each individual variant provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Twin Mattress

Construction Helix Twin Mattress

All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based upon the foams used in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique mattresses (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix Twin Mattress

Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you want something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to experience some gratifying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to give additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the version you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and therefore very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more options.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and generates some top quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Majority of side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier region. People who are smaller than average or people in the market for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.

Finally, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners that weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with different types of bodies or tastes may also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of these options sound right, you may always check out the 4 other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for all people, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Twin Mattress

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that movement from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of individuals would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you may experience some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll reach the pocketed coils and find fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a wide assortment of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel very secure seated on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Laying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is sent to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it free, and receive a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, the company finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Twin Mattress

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the original owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleanup, it is advised to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure that you wash using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
