Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Hilux Sleep Mattress

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Customers are asked to complete a survey that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each respective model provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Hilux Sleep Mattress

Construction Hilux Sleep Mattress

All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based upon the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique mattresses (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Hilux Sleep Mattress

Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you prefer something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some great body contouring. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on the variant you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional choices.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Many side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are needing less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier region. People who are lighter than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples that weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with differing body types or tastes may also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of these options seem quite right, you can always have a look at the 4 other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be crucial for many sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Hilux Sleep Mattress

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a new mattress, the majority of individuals would like to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

While you may experience some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you will find the individually-wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combo will interest a wide assortment of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel very secure seated on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it free of charge, and receive a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix finds a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Hilux Sleep Mattress

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain to wash using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
