Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. How Thick Is A Helix Mattress
Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Customers are asked to complete a survey that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each individual option offers a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. How Thick Is A Helix Mattress

Construction How Thick Is A Helix Mattress
All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based upon the foams used in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine different variants (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). How Thick Is A Helix Mattress
Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you prefer something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are likely to encounter some great body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firm mattress to make use of a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to encourage extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which variant you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with more options.
Laying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and produces some top quality body shaping, while the other materials within the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier region. People who are lighter than average or those looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners who weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with different body types or tastes can also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of those models seem quite right, you may always have a look at the four other variants in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be important for all buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
When purchasing a new mattress, the majority of men and women would like to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you may experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you will find the pocketed coils and feel amazing support. This combination will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Lying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Sleep is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free, and receive a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. How Thick Is A Helix Mattress
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1″ or more, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it’s advised to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to wash using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
