Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Is Helix Mattress Worth It

Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to complete a survey that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each individual option gives a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Is Helix Mattress Worth It

Construction Is Helix Mattress Worth It

All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine different versions (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Is Helix Mattress Worth It

Below, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you want something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re probably going to encounter some gratifying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their varying feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on the model you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more options.

Laying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the other materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Majority of side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are needing less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier region. Those who are smaller than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with different body types or tastes may also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of these options feel right, you could always have a look at the four other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the line).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for all buyers, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Is Helix Mattress Worth It

According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the bed will bother you, you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a new mattress, the majority of people want to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you’ll reach the pocketed coils and experience great support. This combination will interest a vast range of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel very secure sitting on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, Helix Sleep does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Is Helix Mattress Worth It

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1″ or more, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleaning, it is advised to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain to clean using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
