Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Leesa Mattress Vs Helix Mattress

Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Buyers are requested to fill out a survey that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each individual option gives a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Leesa Mattress Vs Helix Mattress

Construction Leesa Mattress Vs Helix Mattress

All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending on the foams used in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine different variants (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Leesa Mattress Vs Helix Mattress

Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you would like something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re probably going to encounter some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their different firmness levels and feels.

The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on the version you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more options.

Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the other materials in the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Many side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a tinier area. People who are lighter than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.

Last, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples that weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with differing body types or preferences can also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of those models seem right, you can always have a look at the 4 other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the line).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for all sleepers, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Leesa Mattress Vs Helix Mattress

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When buying a new mattress, the majority of individuals want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you are likely to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you will find the individually-wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a vast assortment of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel quite secured sitting on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free, and receive a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, Helix finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Leesa Mattress Vs Helix Mattress

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the original owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleaning, it’s advised to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure to clean using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
