Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Mattress In A Box Helix
Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Buyers are urged to complete a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each individual option gives a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Mattress In A Box Helix

Construction Mattress In A Box Helix
All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be rather similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine different versions (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Mattress In A Box Helix
Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you want something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are likely to experience some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness bed to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on which variant you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with more choices.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and generates some high quality body shaping, while the other materials in the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Many side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a smaller area. Those who are smaller than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Last, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners that weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with different body types or tastes may also pick a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of those options sound quite right, you may always check out the 4 other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for all people, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that movement from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
When buying a new mattress, the majority of individuals wish to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
While you may experience some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll find the individually-wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combination will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel quite secure sitting on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Mattress is no different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it free of charge, and get a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, the company locates a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Mattress In A Box Helix
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleaning, it is suggested to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you clean using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
