Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Nectar Mattress Vs Helix Mattress

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to complete a survey that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective option gives a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Nectar Mattress Vs Helix Mattress

Construction Nectar Mattress Vs Helix Mattress

All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique variants (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Nectar Mattress Vs Helix Mattress

Below, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you prefer something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re probably going to encounter some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firm mattress to make use of a memory foam layer, it is crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.

The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which model you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more choices.

Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are two more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Many side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are needing less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a smaller region. Those who are lighter than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.

Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples who weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with different types of bodies or tastes may also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of those options seem quite right, you could always have a look at the 4 other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be crucial for all buyers, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Nectar Mattress Vs Helix Mattress

Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When buying a new mattress, the majority of people would like to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you’re likely to encounter a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to find the individually-wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combination will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel very secure sitting on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix Mattress is no different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free of charge, and receive a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, the company does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Nectar Mattress Vs Helix Mattress

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleanup, it’s advised to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to clean using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
