Alexander Hybrid Luxury Contour: The Alexander Hybrid Luxury Contour has a comfort layer with three layers: a cover built with 2.5 PCF copper-infused, phase-change gel memory foam; a core layer of 3 PCF polyfoam; and a base layer of 4 PCF memory foam. Latex Mattress: The Latex Mattress is offered in ‘Blended Latex’ and ‘Organic Latex’ variants; these designs have the same general framework, but differ significantly in terms of price-point with the Organic option being more pricey. Additionally, the Latex Mattress is offered in 3 firmness levels. The ‘Soft w/topper’ model features a comfort layer built with soft Dunlop latex, as well as a 3 inch Dunlop latex topper. This option is more pricey because of the addition of the topper. The ‘Medium’ and ‘Firm’ models forgo the topper; the ‘Medium’ has a soft Dunlop latex comfort layer and a firm Dunlop latex support center, while the ‘Firm’ has a firm Dunlop latex comfort layer and a soft Dunlop latex support core.

In my opinion, the Alexander Signature Hybrid and the Alexander Signature Series (memory foam) are impressive mattresses, especially at their price points.

Construction

The 3 different firmness options of the Alexander Signature Hybrid all use the same basic structure, but with somewhat varying foams and densities. Each mattress begins with 8 inches of individually-wrapped support coils. The next layer is 1 inch of “SmartFlow” support polyfoam, that is designed to increase airflow and helps with heat retention. Each firmness level utilizes 3 PCF (lbs per cubic foot foam within this layer. The following layer is 1.5 inches of either 2.5 PCF copper-infused “Energex” polyfoam (Plush), 3.5 PCF copper-infused Energex polyfoam (Medium) or 4.5 PCF slow-recovery memory foam (Luxury Firm). The last layer is 1.5″ of “TitanChil” cooling polyfoam. The bed cover is 1.5″ of 4 PCF gel-infused memory foam inside a quilted, cooling cloth. This gives a soft feel.

Firmness

The Alexander Signature Hybrid is offered in 3 firmness levels: Plush (3), Medium (5) and a Luxury Firm (8). Firmness level is measured on a scale of 1-10, with 1 being the least firm and 10 being the firmest. You can pick between Plush, Medium, and Luxury firm. Weight will make an impact on what works for you. Generally, heavier people prefer firmer beds while lighter people normally find they can get more hug and contour on plusher mattresses.

Motion Transfer

Hybrids do not isolate movement as well as all-foam beds typically do, because inner-springs permit motion to more easily move through the surface of the bed. The Alexander Signature Hybrid, though, has various foam layers on top of its springs. These foam layers help the bed absorb movement to a significant extent. As soon as I turned and tossed next to my spouse, you could not identify much motion in her body. She said that she could feel it, but it was minimal. Despite this, the mattress still displays good bounce.

Sinkage

If you have mobility problems, moving around in a reclined position can be hard. Classic memory foam usually caused so much sinkage that it made it hard to move around. However, if you have too much bounce, it’s easy to disturb rest.

You may face some sinkage using the Alexander Signature Hybrid due to its soft foam top layers. But this sinking feeling differs from what you’d receive with a more conventional memory foam mattress as it is reduced by the mattress’ supportive pocketed coil system. This means you’ll sink, but will still be able to move around easily and get out of the bed without too much problem. While there’s some sinkage here, it is not as dramatic as it would be on a conventional memory foam mattress. This creates great pressure relief with no stuck-in-the-bed experience.

Edge Support

The inner-spring coil support core of the Alexander Signature Hybrid functions to reinforce its edges. This produces an even sleeping surface across the whole mattress and helps prevent sagging and sinkage at the perimeter of the bed. The spring coils are great at setting that strong base you require. When I moved in a variety of positions, I felt pretty well-supported. I could feel and you could actually see where I really do sink in a quite a bit, but the sinkage in the mattress ends where the inner-spring coils begin. In spite of the plush foam top layers, this mattress is extremely supportive, due to the eight inches of individually-wrapped coils at its core. It’s quite easy to get in and out of the mattress, and I am wellsupported when I lie on the edge, a big plus for sleep partners.

Heat Retention

The Alexander Signature Hybrid is quite cool. The inner-spring coils permit adequate airflow, helping to diminish body heat. The foam layers, which in most cases trap heat, are infused with cooling gel and copper to offset this common issue. This mattress is a great pick for those who want to rest cool. This hybrid does a fantastic job of dispersing and isolating warmth, resulting in a resting experience that is wonderfully cool.

Off-Gassing

Once an Alexander Signature Hybrid mattress is made, it’s compressed, vacuum-sealed in plastic and sent to your front door in a marked box. Whenever a mattress is compressed and vacuum-sealed, it tends to emit a temporary smell when it is unboxed. This smell is known as “off-gassing.” You can expect to experience this with the Alexander Signature Hybrid, however, the smell should dissipate quickly.
