Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Returning A Helix Mattress
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Buyers are urged to complete a survey that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective model gives a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Returning A Helix Mattress

Construction Returning A Helix Mattress
All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be rather similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine unique variants (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Returning A Helix Mattress
Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you want something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re likely to encounter some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firm bed to make use of a memory foam layer, it is crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to encourage extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on which variant you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with additional choices.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some top quality body shaping, while the other materials in the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Majority of side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a tinier area. Those who are lighter than average or people in the market for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.
Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples who weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with different types of bodies or tastes may also select a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those models feel quite right, you can always check out the 4 other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for many sleepers, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that motion from the other side of the bed will wake you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When buying a brand-new mattress, most people want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you may experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to reach the individually-wrapped coils and find amazing support. This combination will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Laying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it for free of charge, and get a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, the company finds a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Returning A Helix Mattress
Helix offers an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleanup, it’s advised to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make certain that you clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
