Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Sleep Like The Dead Helix
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Customers are requested to complete a survey that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective model provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Sleep Like The Dead Helix

Construction Sleep Like The Dead Helix
All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be rather similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique models (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Sleep Like The Dead Helix
Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you prefer something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some great body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on which model you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more options.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some top quality body shaping, while the other materials within the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are needing less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a tinier region. Those who are smaller than average or people in the market for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.
Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with different body types or tastes may also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of those models seem quite right, you can always have a look at the four other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).
Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be important for all buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Sleep Like The Dead Helix
According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When getting a new mattress, the majority of people want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you are going to encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to find the individually-wrapped coils and find great support. This combo will appeal to a wide assortment of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel quite secured seated on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix Sleep is not any different. You customize the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it free of charge, and get a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Sleep Like The Dead Helix
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1″ or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleaning, it is advised to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you clean using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
