Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Sleep Sherpa Helix
Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Buyers are asked to complete a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each respective model offers a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Sleep Sherpa Helix

Construction Sleep Sherpa Helix
All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be rather similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending upon the foams used in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique versions (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Sleep Sherpa Helix
Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you want something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some great body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to give extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on which model you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with more choices.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who want a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Most side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier area. Those who are smaller than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.
Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples that weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with differing types of bodies or preferences can also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of these models seem quite right, you can always check out the 4 other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).
Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for many sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
When purchasing a brand-new mattress, most people would like to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
While you may encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the pocketed coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secure seated on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Laying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will fall off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is sent to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and get a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Sleep Sherpa Helix
Helix Sleep offers an awesome 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleanup, it’s advised to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make certain that you clean using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
