As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets many of our requirements for what a perfect mattress should provide. With eight unique layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud makes use of all of the proper components in its construction. Target Dream Cloud
Starting from the tufted cashmere cover that provides great airflow, to the gel memory foam on the top comfort layer, the DreamCloud is designed to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Resting below are a mixture of polyurethane foam and latex layers, which means this mattress contains better quality relaxation materials than most other hybrid mattresses.
Despite the fact that it makes use of multiple polyurethane foam layers, there is not any hug or significant contouring to the mattress. If you’re wanting to sink into a mattress, move on from the DreamCloud.
A pocketed coil support core makes sure that you are aligned all night long, particularly so for for those of you who lay on your back.

Construction Target Dream Cloud
The DreamCloud has an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15″. The 8-layer structure is broken down to foam and wrapped coil components, which operate in tandem to supply the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and plenty of comfy pressure relief. Target Dream Cloud
Because of all the distinct materials at play , I am excited to look at these layers to understand how well they mesh with one another.
Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester mix for a soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate relaxation.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you will notice three layers of memory foam. While these sections are soft to the touch and provide some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel trapped in the mattress. The core of these three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the mattress as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is good at releasing heat, so the addition of these tiny ventilations promotes even more cooling. Target Dream Cloud
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of polyurethane transitions to the firmer support segment of the mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress good bounce and help spread motion throughout the structure. The coils also aid in regulating temperatures as the distances between them permit continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam can be found at the base of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a solid foundation for the entire mattress.
After looking at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I began by putting mild hand pressure to the mattress and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hand flowed into the material and I could feel some immediate pressure relief. Pushing in deeper, I started to interact with the pocketed coils beneath and felt a nice lift from these springs.
At this point I want to let you know that people of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my sentiment on the general firmness level of the mattress, I asked three additional individuals to present their opinion as well. This will provide you with a much better sense of the firmness range you may find from the mattress.
The testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of the mattress, giving it a mean rating of 7.75. Compare this to the industry standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it is clear that this mattress is pretty firm.
I personally gave the mattress a 7.5 and agree with the other testers that it’s definitely a solid mattress. While you’ll feel some slight sinking from the foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you from this mattress and make you feel as though you are sleeping on top of this mattress, instead of in it.
Instead of just describing the feel of the mattress to you, I chose to provide a visual representation of where an individual may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do this, I laid a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my side, back, and tummy. You can find the results on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Once on my backside, my weight was equally dispersed throughout the mattress, therefore I didn’t feel as though I was sinking into it in any way. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped lift me from the mattress and keep my back aligned.
Side – As you can see in the image above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming in my shoulders and hips. But, I felt supported, and the top foam layers alleviated any discomfort I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my stomach, I believed the DreamCloud did an awesome job of lifting my hips up and out of the mattress, which is important for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to transition across these positions with relative ease.
If you plan on sharing your mattress with a spouse, you’ll probably want to know what it’ll feel like if another person crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around at night. This next test is intended to illustrate the amount of movement that’s detectable from one side of the mattress from the other.
To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then quantified the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance. Target Dream Cloud
The DreamCloud exhibits a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates an individual rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I’d still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, thanks to its individually wrapped coils. This means that you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, making the DreamCloud a great solution for couples.
When getting a new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it. To present this sinkage, I put four balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress then measured how much they compacted the top of the mattress.
The variations in size, density, and weight are supposed to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers.
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you are likely to experience a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll find the wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combo will appeal to a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
Target Dream Cloud
If you’re going to share your mattress with someone and will need to use the entire surface area of the mattress, then it’s going to be important that you think about the amount of edge support it’ll provide.
I am very interested to determine whether the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that can’t fulfill the edge support of more traditional innerspring versions.
Lying on my back, I felt as supported in the edge of the bed as I did in the middle. Going closer to the side, I experienced a little compression due to the upper foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.
Changing to my side, I once again felt compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the coil system beneath. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did an awesome job of supporting my weight.
In the last position, I wanted to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you are tying your shoes and getting ready for the day. Most foam mattresses undergo a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up well.
