Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. What Is A Helix Mattress
Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Buyers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective variant offers a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. What Is A Helix Mattress

Construction What Is A Helix Mattress
All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine distinct variants (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). What Is A Helix Mattress
Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are probably going to experience some gratifying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on the variant you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which will be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with more options.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Majority of side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or those in the market for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples who weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with differing body types or preferences can also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of these options sound right, you can always have a look at the four other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).
Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for many people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. What Is A Helix Mattress
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that motion from the other side of the bed will bother you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
While buying a new mattress, most individuals want to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you may experience a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you will find the individually-wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combination will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel quite secure sitting on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix Mattress is no different. You create the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it is sent to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it free, and get a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. What Is A Helix Mattress
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the first owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1″ or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain that you clean using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
